FAQ's:

1. How much does an Art / Greeting Card set or Kaleidoscope / Mandala Card set cost?

As with anything custom made, cost depends on the extent and complexity of the work and materials involved. Many factors can affect card costs, especially those associated with the "specs" of the project: paper stock, the quantity being printed, and the printing method involved. After our one-hour free consultation when we discuss the requesters's "vision" for the cards, we will be happy to provide detailed pricing.

2. How long does a project take?

Like cost, quite a bit depends on how complex a project is. Also, a lot depends on how final a "final idea " actually is. Numerous changes and late rewrites can slow a project down considerably. Generally, a custom card project takes from 2-3 weeks to complete. An edition of a handmade collection may take longer to finish than a commercial series. A project is slowest at the beginning, when we are designing the cards to match the requester's vision, creating concepts, gathering elements, choosing fonts, and so on. Once those early creative decisions are made, projects go to print relatively quickly. We try to accommodate requestors with upcoming special events, but sometimes rush jobs just aren't possible.

3. Who holds the copyright to my cards?

The copyright to the work always remains the requestor's.

4. Are ISBN numbers available?

Yes, as well as pricing bar codes. You don't necessarily need an ISBN number and bar code to place your custom cards in local independent bookstores and gift shops, but they can help. We don't recommend ISBN numbers for handmade greeting cards.

5. Do you print your cards abroad?

So far, we've been able to resist the pressure to print our cards out of the country. We're very sensitive to keeping Americans employed. We do everything possible to keep our prices competitive and try to make the personal attention we give every card series and requester worth any difference in cost.

6. How do I sell my cards?

Sales and distribution are the responsibility of the requester. Mostly your success in selling your cards is directly related to the effort you put into marketing yourself and your card series. Some of our requesters have had great success placing their cards in independent bookstores and cards shops in their local markets, as well as selling their cards in their personal web sites. With an ISBN number, Amazon.com and other web sites also become an option.

7. What other services does Mind's Eye Design offer?

Our clients may use any of the editing and design services we offer independently of a full card series project (e.g. front of card design). Most clients, however, choose to have us take their card series from concept to finish for one affordable "package" price. Mind's Eye Design also offers full print agency services for collateral materials, including brochures, press kits, business cards, announcement postcards, broadsides, and flyers.
